Individuals may choose to donate blood for their own use for planned elective surgeries. This procedure is known as autologous donation. Up to four units of blood may be donated in the month prior to surgery. The procedure is similar to routine blood donation, and the blood is clearly labeled for your specific use. L&M requires you to have orders from your doctor, and meet certain criteria in order to take part in autologous donation.
