Course Description

 

This 14-week program will present information essential to a basic understanding of the language used in the health care professions.  This program builds on the material with particular focus on the major organ systems of the human body.  Relevant medical abbreviations will be included.

 

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

-        List and briefly define the levels of organization in the human body.

 

-        Demonstrate an understanding of the disease process by defining medical terms associated with pathology.

 

-        Explain the main functions of each organ system (gastrointestinal, respiratory, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, reproductive, endocrine, and nervous).

 

-        Correctly spell and pronounce the terms used.

 

-        Define the medical abbreviations associated with these organ systems and their disorders.
